Schoharie Crossing hosted Montgomery County Historian, Kelly Yacobucci Farquhar as she presented on the events that occurred in Montgomery County regarding the Women’s Suffrage movement. As March is Women’s History Month, this Virtual Lunchbox Lesson scheduled for Tuesday, March 8th at 12p via WebEx, examined some of the local history as women sought the legal right to vote.
Kelly Yacobucci Farquhar is the Montgomery County Historian and Records
Management Officer. …A native of Canajoharie, she graduated with a Bachelor of
Arts degree from Siena College. Kelly
has worked in the Montgomery County Department of History & Archives since
1996 with an appointment to County Historian/RMO in 2000. Her work has included the publication of two
books in the Images of America series from Arcadia Publishing: Montgomery County and Amsterdam (co-authored
with Scott Haefner). Additionally, she worked with Dr. Judith Wellman to
compile the book Uncovering the Underground Railroad, Abolitionism, and African
American Life in Montgomery County, New York 1820-1890, a look at Montgomery
County's participation in this movement of social reform, as well as the lives
of the African Americans within the county. Her other research has explored the
role of women in the county and even away at war. She continues to research and
collect the history of Montgomery County and through her office, provides
several programs throughout the year…such as this one.
