Canal Days 2015 - July 11 & 12
We are super excited about the upcoming Canal Days at
This year features great fun for
the entire family as Canal Days is a community festival celebrating the Erie
Canal and the richness of the people and towns along its way. On both days there will be artifact identification
by the NYS
Archeological Association, Wagon Rides, the Utica Zoomobile, a magic
performance by Jim Snack, Tri County
Power Old Engine Display, a large model of a working lock hosted by the Canal Corporation, games, food,
vendors, and a flea market. The archeological association will also have a
display of Native American artifacts for visitors to view and handle. The Amsterdam
Mohawks Baseball Team Mascot, Mojo will be making an appearance each
day. Various community organizations
will also be participating including the Amsterdam Public Library who will
be doing a craft project with children and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s
Department K9 patrol.
On Saturday, blue grass band, Three Quarter North, will be playing along with Cosby Gibson and Tom Staudle. Cosby and Tom will also be offering a lively music workshop after their performance in the Enders House (Great for Kids!). On Saturday there will also be a car show sponsored by The Rat Pack Cruizers, Ox Team demo, and the Friends of Schoharie Crossing will be selling barbeque chicken. Slipstream Watercraft will be offering Kayak demonstrations at the Boat Launch Saturday morning. The Kanatsiohareke Mohawk Community will be selling traditional Iroquois crafts.
On Sunday in addition to the
weekend long events the program will feature Annie and the Hedonists, the Price
Chopper Bouncy Bounce and Orapello’s
wood fired pizza.
The festival is part of an Art
and History Weekend which includes Johnson Hall’s Market
Fair and the Buck Moon Art
Festival at Fulton-Montgomery Community College. There will be a special Art and History
Geocache informational challenge with geocache demos at all three locations,
and there will be a shuttle traveling between the 3 events. Visitors will
receive a passbook, and anyone who visits all events over the course of the
weekend will be eligible for a prize drawing.

with funds from the Montgomery County Occupancy Tax administered by the
Montgomery County Board of Supervisors.
